Xanthe Terra

This region of Mars is dominated by outflow channels, many of them draining the great Mariner Valley.

The Ares Vallis region has channels that were carved by flowing water. The Pathfinder probe landed near here in 1997.

Large erosion features in the Ares Vallis region.

Another channel carves its way through the land.

There is jumbled chaotic terrain in some of the basins.

Martian hills are shaped by water, and also wind erosion from the many powerful dust storms.
