The Italian countryside seemed familiar to me, not too different from the US west coast regions. What made it different, and especially in Rome, was the fact that many structures are so ancient. I was amazed by the occult and astrological symbolism in the Vatican. It is one thing to read books about it and quite another to see it up close. St. Peter's Square rivals Stonehenge in that manner. The combination of ancient ruins along side modern eateries and other establishments make it a place worth taking in. Some caution is in order here as the motorists do not give the pedestrians any quarter. |
